online shopping haul: etsy & urban outfitters

Hello folks! I hope you're all doing well! I sure am... minus the fact that I am blowing my money on online shopping (but who could say no to the Urban Outfitters sales and mystery Etsy items?).

Now, I'm trying to rationalize here, there's plenty of "reasons" why I should order new things. It's getting to be cold and I need to stock up on layers! I don't have enough of _____ clothing I actually need this! I haven't bought anything online for awhile and it was on sale! Well whether or not I actually needed these new items I got them anyways, and I love every one of them. Here are the things I got:

I got this Kimchi Blue skirt from Urban Outfitters online. It's quite plain, but the embroidery adds a nice touch which is why I love it.
This Rag Union Double Foil Denim Jacket is from Urban, and it was on sale for $30! I love the bold purple color and the jacket has a 90s sort of vibe which is totally rad.

This was my mystery flannel from SASHASHORTS Shop on Etsy! It's over-sized so I use it sort of like an alternative to a jacket.

Aaaaaaaand finally here's my mystery over-sized sweater from SASHASHORTS on Etsy! It's very comfortable and I absolutely love it. Her shop is amazing and her mystery orders are very satisfactory.

I remember a time when I didn't know about the wonders of online shopping (thanks Dana for getting me into it). Oh where the days have gone, but I mean what kind of fashion blogger would I be if I didn't update my closet once in awhile?

totes spooks

Halloween is honestly one of my favorite days of the year. When else are we encouraged to dress up and go all out? When else can we knock on someone's door and demand candy? Maybe I am giving into a capitalistic ploy, but I don't care. I can't be bothered to fight the system if I have Kit-Kats in my mouth.

This year, I was inspired by Japanese pop star Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (ala the "Pon Pon Pon" song) and her signature monster makeup to do a sort of demonic schoolgirl look. Surprisingly, the only things I had to buy were white eyeliner and false eyelashes! Everything else was found around the house. The "schoolgirl blouse" is actually a shirt-jacket-thing from the 2008 Olympics, but an alternative could probably be found at a thrift store. This look is really simple, but it definitely delivers.

What were you for Halloween? Do you like looking cute for Halloween, or going all guts-and-gore-galore? Do you still trick-or-treat? (I still do. Whoops.) Let us know below!

Love always,
Dana

(P.S.: Apologies to all the small children I probably scared the crap out of.)

candles, cake and creme

Hello folks!

So I know I haven't been posting very frequently lately, and I apologize but I do promise to try post more often! I have two drafts waiting to be edited soon so be on the look out!

So a little update with what's going on with me right now, I don't know if I should post this because it's not quite an enriching piece on any sort of trend but I will anyways. Today is finally my fifteenth birthday! I am of course one of the youngest in my class which is weird to me (but of course not as young as Dana who's birthday is in fact coming up pretty soon *wink*). It was a very eventful day to say the least (I got asked to homecoming which was fun, and I'll be sure to write about dresses as the date comes closer).

So anyways, getting back to fashion, here's a little quick OOTD for y'all coming to you today on my fifteenth birthday (I'm a child I know). Apologies for the poor iPhone quality.

beauty queen in tears

URBAN OUTFITTERS tank top // FOREVER21 shorts // SODA SHOES flatform sneaks

Hey guys! Dana here. Well, it's finally October, but living in California means it's still 70 degrees out. The chunky sweaters and scarves will have to wait. My Urban Outfitters package arrived yesterday with this sick muscle tee, so I pounced on the opportunity to wear it. Contrary to popular belief, that cat is shooting lasers, not crying blood. To each his own, I guess.

Quick update on life in general: Sorry I've been sort of M.I.A. for a while. Sophomore year's actually hitting me pretty hard with a seemingly endless bombardment of tests and projects--not to mention Pre-Calculus. No thanks. Otherwise, life's been treating me well! I hacked off my ombre with some kitchen scissors at 1 AM last Monday, in case you haven't noticed. And I finally got my hands on Photoshop, hence the mediocre photo processing. I promise I'll get better.

Ebay haul coming up soon! Now get off the Internet.

Catch you on the flippity flip,
Dana

(P.S. It looks like my fly is down, but I swear it's not. The underside of my belt just happens to be flesh-colored. What a coinkydink.)

i left my heart in san francisco

GIFTED beanie // URBAN OUTFITTERS tank top // H&M jacket // F21 jeans // SODA SHOES flatform sneaks // MARC JACOBS purse and necklace

San Francisco is one of my favorite cities in the world. For one, the weather is always just how I like it: crisp, cold, and cloudy. You could say I'm a bit of a drab person, but I grew up in the Bay Area, where sunny days are scarce and the sky is more thank likely to be gray, which is why I'm so excited for autumn. Pumpkin spice lattes and chunky sweaters and circle scarves and rainboots and beanies and mittens and fireplaces, here I come! In the coming weeks, expect to see a lot less skin and a lot more layers.

Sorry for the lack of updates! We're both really busy with school, so bear with us. But watch out; coming your way is my eBay review (all the items finally arrived!) and some style tips! Thanks for reading.

じゃ、またね!

haul: thrift town

Hello folks! Yesterday, we went to San Francisco and we went to a store called Thrift Town. We each got some pretty cute clothes for a steal, both of us spending less than ten dollars on two items each. We filmed a thrift haul video, so check it out below!

school sux

I'm not what you would call a morning person. When my alarm clock goes off at 6 AM, I immediately hit the snooze button. I just (A) am severely sleep deprived and (B) terribly unmotivated to go to school, much less get ready for it. However, this past week, I've been forcing myself to get out of bed and pull together semi-decent outfits just to get myself in the right mood for the rest of the day.

In all honesty, I think it's working. All pictures can be found on my instagram.

URBAN OUTFITTERS hawaiian blouse // ANN TAYLOR shorts // CITY SOLES shoes

EBAY snapback // SOMEWHERE IN ASIA crop top // NORDSTROM skirt // SODA SHOES flatforms

COTTON ON cateye sunnies // EBAY tank & suspender skirt // SODA SHOES flatforms

BORROWED cardigan // URBAN OUTFITTERS tank // BILLABONG acid jeggings // SODA SHOES flatforms

As you can tell, I'm a big fan of two things: my flatforms and the color black.

aloha nui loa: maui wednesday

Though the crisp, chilly NorCal weather wouldn't remind anyone of the Aloha State, our outfits hopefully do. Spirit Week has come to our school, and the two of us love to dress up for all the crazy themes! Today was Maui Wednesday, so we rocked the halls with leis and Hawaiian prints.

the leaves are blushing red

The new school year has started and with it came the unusual joy of back-to-school shopping. As I have been looking for new clothes to add to my wardrobe, I've noticed a recurring trend in color: burgundy. I, myself have joined the trend and have repeatedly bought items of burgundy clothing, simply because the shade of red goes with about everything.

With the summer coming to an end, burgundy fits the autumn season quite nicely. It reminds me of the leaves falling and it's simply a fall color.

Burgundy is quickly become the dominant color in my closet and is easily my staple color this fall. All I need now is a burgundy scarf and maybe a coat to complete my inventory.

What do you think? Is burgundy the new black this fall or is it just me?

ebay haul: online shopping is a beautiful sin

After getting over my initial wariness of how shady eBay seemed to me, I decided to give it a try. A lot of people have successful eBay stories, so why not, you know?

Well, something happened.

I got addicted.

Someone honestly needs to take away my debit card before I max out. Today's haul is all about basics that are highly versatile! It's also about being cheap, because if you're going to online shop, you don't want to risk paying too much. I bid and won the following items:

Denim Suspender Skirt // $17.99

HELLO!! Snapback // $8.99

I HATE EVERYONE tank // $6.99

Chiffon Striped Shirt // $4.04

Lace Sweater Mini Dress // $7.99

Total: $46

I'm so excited to see how these purchases turn out! My wallet, not so much.

I shall see you anon,
Dana

you kiss by the book

FOREVER21 skirt and denim shirt // H&M tank top // SODA SHOES sneaker flatforms

School's back in session, which means I'm having war flashbacks to freshman year. I'm pretty sure all of my posts are going to end up as quotes from Shakespeare. (The title is from when Romeo kisses Juliet for the first time and she totally just tells him that he's a so-so kisser. Burn.)

These shoes have been an absolute staple for me. I got them for just $35 at the wonderful Irvine Spectrum and they're perfect for throwing on any outfit to dress it down. Plus, they give me extra height, which is ideal for little 5'1 girls like me. When sweater weather comes along, these look adorable with thigh highs.

I just had two tests today, the third day of school, marking the first time I've actually studied for anything in about two years. I need time to recuperate. Catch you next time.

I shall see you anon (look, more Shakespeare speak),
Dana

tutorial: semiformal/everyday look

What's up homeskillets?! Dana here, and admittedly, I've been playing around with makeup quite a bit this summer. Although I'm no expert, I whipped up this little tutorial showing you guys one of my go-to looks when it comes to dressing up! This look, for me, is perfect for things like interviews, dinners, dances, etc., because it accentuates the eyes in a way that appears effortless. Depending on your taste and time, you could also use this as an everyday look. For school, I usually just do foundation, eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips.

Enjoy!

trending: clear frame eyeglasses

The past few years have been about bringing back trends from the 1900's. We've seen daring dresses and fur coats from the 20's, simple and girly dresses from the 50's, high-waisted everything and knotted shirts from the 90's, etc. Today I'll be talking about a trend from the 70's that I totally dig: clear frame eyeglasses.

If the image you get upon reading that is Napoleon Dynamite, then we're on the same page. Clear frame eyeglasses are exactly what they sound like. At first, the sight of them could only remind me of an afro'd dude with a "Vote for Pedro" shirt. Eventually, the trend grew on me and now I'm dying to get my hands on a pair.

I think what I like is the minimalism that comes with these glasses. Wearing glasses with colored frames draws more attention to the frame than the eyes; with these clear frames, any eye makeup you wear will be more visible. Besides that, you'll never have to worry about the frames clashing with your outfit because, well, clear goes with everything. Lastly, I love how unique they are. It's not every day you see someone wearing clear-framed eyeglasses; they're sure to get a remark or two.

My excuse for getting these is that the new school year is starting. I need to see. ;)

What do you think? Love it? Hate it? Make sure to let us know in the comments below.

take me to tokyo + playlist

As the doom and gloom of the upcoming school year creeps ever closer, it's time to consider revamping our wardrobes for the new semester. One way to do this is to expose oneself to trends around the world to catch a glimpse of fashion in places far from home.

Today, let's take a trip to the streets of Tokyo. Beneath the flashing lights and glass skyscrapers is a concrete parade of self-expression. Tokyo street style is something I've really been getting into this summer thanks to the contrast between fun colors and straight up grunge, the posh minimalism or the eclectic mish-mosh of patterns, and the wicked hair/shoe/accessory decisions. Here's a playlist of a few Japanese artists I like to get you in the mood:

Keep in mind that while I wouldn't necessarily wear all these outfits, I would definitely incorporate their elements into my own style! (All images are from Tumblr and are not my own creative property; if you are the owner or subject of one of these photos and want me to take them down, please contact me.)

So, there's a taste of Tokyo for you. I honestly admire these people for being so bold and expressive; the ability to be daring is a fashion blessing. Love it? Hate it? Will you be investing in pastel hair or tattoo tights any time soon, or do you think Tokyo fash should stay where it is? Let us know!

love always, dana x
