hardly haunting

Hello folks!

Yes I know it's been a while, and I'M SORRY WE ABANDONED YOU FOR A MONTH.

Regardless, I've come with a quick recap of my Halloween (almost a week late I know).

I didn't feel like I had so much time to prepare this year, and so I stayed up late on the night of October 30th, trying to find a quick and easy last-minute costume.

Should I be rough and tough Rosie the Riveter?

Nope, it just didn't look right for me with my ill-fitting boyfriend jeans, frumpy denim shirt, and flat hair that wouldn't cooperate with my red bandana.

Maybe Daria (the costume that I had prepared for earlier)?

I could have BUT I was missing the glasses! So it didn't feel right.

So what did I settle for?

A totally 90's rad outfit that hardly resembled an outfit worn by Ashley Banks in one episode of Fresh Prince.

Photos by the lovely Georgina Espinosa.

BARELY BANKS
HANDED-DOWN jacket and skirt // AMERICAN APPAREL turtleneck crop top // MOSSIMO wedges // F21 necklace

SO, maybe it wasn't a super creative or well-known costume, but at least I tried! Although many people commented that it looked like a regular outfit that I would wear on a regular day... I guess that's a sign that the costume was made for me?

Or maybe I was just lazy. BUT IT WAS A GOOD ATTEMPT.

escapades: ootd + diary

NORDSTROM sunnies // INTERACT D5150 t-shirt // EBAY suspender skirt // NORDSTROM boots

EYEKO eye do eyeliner // MAC lipstick in "media"

spirited away henna on my wrist

urban doubtfits ft. potatoes and milk tea

The annual festival came to town this weekend, and that inevitably meant work for Daysia and I. Our Interact Club sells beverages at the festival every year, and as president and vice-president of the club, we came decked in our Interact wear. We sold oodles of drinks thanks to our super effective advertising skills (aka us chanting "Get hydrated, get get hydrated" and attempting to juggle water bottles). After my shift, I got a No-Face henna on my wrist; as always, it was grossly overpriced, but no festival is complete without one.

In other news, I don't recommend buying Eyeko's Eye Do eyeliner. It makes gorgeous lines and wings, but the pen tip is oddly shaped and it smears quite a lot on humid days; plus, the tip starts drying out after two weeks, and after a month it's practically unusable. So although I did enjoy Eye Do during its short time span, I can't justify buying a new one every two weeks when a trusty Stila will last for months at the same price.

Final note: I'm starting to become a huge fan of pigtail braids. I used to think they were too juvenile, but I'm really digging the whimsical vibes the hairstyle gives off. Not to mention that braids are a quick fix on a bad hair day.

Hope your Labor Day weekend is peachy keen so far!

color the world

Hey y'all,

This past weekend was Pride Weekend, a time to support and embrace the LGBTQ community, and San Francisco was packed with people celebrating.

The Pride Parade was on Sunday, but I went on Saturday so I unfortunately was unable to see the parade, but I had a great time, nonetheless! There were tons of people wearing crazy outfits and it was all very eccentric, but I loved it. I love that this weekend was a time where folks weren't afraid to let their freak flags fly-- cute, creatively decorated bras, tutus, crazy open-ended suspender tight things. People were wearing every color under the sun. It was completely and absolutely crazy and fun and definitely a sight to see.

Here is my Pride outfit! Not as colorful as a lot of others, but I guess it's more colorful than anything I usually? I don't know.

COLOR THE WORLD
FOREVER 21 top and necklace // GAP shorts // H&M jacket and shoes // HAND-ME-DOWN bag // STREET VENDOR lei

Details

*Sorry about the shine*
NYX BRAND eyeshadow // STILA liquid liner

Unfortunately, I didn't get a lot of pictures of Pride but here are a couple taken there.

Overpriced food trucks are my jam. (There were a lot.)

Of course, amidst all the fun and celebration, we can't forget what Pride supports and fights for. LGBT rights and equality are still a major issue in the US. Same-sex marriage is legal in 19 states, but there is still work to do in order to make it legal nationwide. As a country, we have begun to become more accepting, but there is still a lot prejudice, unfortunately. There is hope for equality, and events like Pride are really great for getting people to have fun and come together!

Catch you all later,

suburban summers

DORMANT DAZE
FOREVER 21 top, shorts, sunglasses, hat, and bag // NINE WEST sandals // GIFTED flannel

Details

Hello, hello!

I finally went out today after two weeks of being stuck in the house. Needless to say, it was a much-needed day. Of course all I did was eat, walk, and repeat.

I love summers because I always want to go out and do something, not that I actually do, but it's nice to have that energy after the mundane months of school and deadlines. Whether it's going somewhere really adventurous or just staying local, I still like taking pictures and I don't mind using all of my film on days like this.

Anyways, this is my quick little outfit of the day. Sorry that the posts have been coming slow, but it comes with a slow start to summer. More to come soon!

Daysia

sunday best

Hello folks!

Today was a beautiful Sunday-- the sun was shining, it wasn't too hot, and it was an ideal day to take some photos.

Sunday Finest
AMERICAN APPAREL shirt // FRANCESCA'S skirt // FOREVER 21 sunnies and belt // MOSSIMO wedges // NORDSTROM bag

Also, I finally bought a couple new things for my wardrobe.

God bless.

I have not gone shopping or gotten any new clothing items in about three months. If you know me, you know that is a very long time without new clothes. A wardrobe, no matter how versatile, cannot withstand such a long period of time without new things. There are only so many different combinations you can make, people. Not that two items makes a huge difference, but I'm still content.

Catch you on the flipsies.

enchantment passing through

Hello!
This past week has been exhausting/exciting/stressful/sleep-depriving with our school's production of Aida (which Dana was in, being kawaii as heck, while I ran around backstage also being okay as heck), but it was all worth it. The cast, crew, and orchestra did an amazing job and every single person was so unbelievably amazing I cried, forealsies.

Anyways, even with all the busy work that went on this week, I had, at least, this outfit to present to you guys. This is actually a perfect example of my love for knee socks and skater skirts:

(Why am I always looking towards that side?)
BUFFALO EXCHANGE thrifted shirt // COTTON ON skirt // CHINESE LAUNDRY knee socks // MERONA wedges // FOREVER 21 kimono // TARGET X PHILLIP LIM bag

These were taken by my friend Christin before the show on Saturday. We had actually missed two trains that morning (story of our lives basically) and so she was gracious enough to take these for me.

I could write a 10,000 word review about how much I loved the musical this weekend but it would not show you how amazing it really was. I WANT TO SHOUT ABOUT IT TO EVERYONE. (But in all seriousness, my friends were all cute and I screamed a lot. Especially during "Dance of the Robe", "Gods Love Nubia" and "Easy as Life". And everything else. HELP ME OKAY I'LL SHUT UP NOW.)

from up on capitol hill

I've been having severe Berkeley MUN withdrawals lately, and my half-awake mind pulled together this business casual outfit in a subconscious attempt to relive my experiences representing Canada in the G-20. (For those of you who've never heard of MUN, or Model United Nations, it's exactly what it sounds like.)

DECORUM
FOREVER 21 blouse // ZARA blazer // BANANA REPUBLIC cords // FERRAGAMO flats

As I've mentioned before, I'm a huge purporter of juxtaposition, be it of textures, colors, fiscal policies... (Aha, another withdrawal symptom.) The contrast between a black blazer and a colorful pant is classically chic, and I am in love with the blazer's structured shoulders yet generally loose fit. Better yet, this look is ridiculously versatile--I can't think of a single occasion for which this outfit wouldn't be suitable. Or perhaps Model UN has skewed my view of fashion forever, limiting me to the pinstripes and grayscale of Western Business Attire.

Is it terrible that I don't mind?

Session adjourned, delegates.

nosebleeds, palm trees, and tumbleweeds rustling

Hello hello!
Spring is just around the corner and with it comes warmer weather, allergies, and more sunlight. I know it is still technically winter, but sunny days have come to California early, and I am seizing every opportunity I can to wear my spring/summer clothes.

(I don't know what's going on here)

FOREVER 21 kimono // URBAN OUTFITTERS shorts // H&M tee // CONVERSE shoes

I have become quite fond of kimonos lately and with spring quickly approaching, I am quite sure I'm going to be stocking up.  I think I have three right now (oops) but they really are the perfect thing to wear on a day that isn't too cold or too hot. The light fabric allows a breeze to cool you down on the warmer days, and although it probably shouldn't be your first choice as an alternative to a jacket on those colder days, it blocks a little bit of wind still.

Today I paired one of my kimonos with a pair of shorts that I was very excited to wear today. What can I say, I have a thing for high waisted shorts and I haven't worn any in months.

Yeah, yeah, I know what you're thinking: "But sweater weather is better weather!!!!1111!!!1!" Well, to be honest, my undying love for shorts (and skirts) will always trump comfy sweaters. Sorry 'bout it.

Anyways, sorry this is a really short post, but hopefully we'll post something longer soon! (But hey at least we're posting more right? It's a start)

besitos xx,

resurgence

Greetings, old friends; it's me, Dana. It's been quite a while since my last post, but alas! You'll be seeing a lot more of me in the near future.

So, what have I been doing these past 3.5 months? Schoolwork. And lots of it. Did you think it's mere coincidence that the first three letters of satisfaction are SAT? Of course not. But don't think I can't look fabulous while I'm partaking in hardcore studying! In fact, I've been doing just the opposite. Outfits during my impromptu absence include:

RED VELVET
FOREVER 21 beanie // FOREVER 21 dress // FOREIGN EXCHANGE necklace // NORDSTROM boots

I found this dress for $13 during a Black Friday Miracle. I never pictured myself as a velvet girl--besides the cupcakes, of course--but this dress has since become a staple in my wardrobe! It's ridiculously versatile, accentuates what little curves I happen to possess, and adds a hint of elegance with its velvet fabric and cranberry color.

UPPER EAST SIDE
H&M coat // SOMEWHERE IN ASIA crop top // FOREVER 21 skirt // NORDSTROM boots // MARC JACOBS bag // MAC "Sheer Plum" lipstick

Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a huge fan of the show Gossip Girl, and this outfit was definitely inspired by "Manhattan's elite." The long coat and black leggings and boots streamline my figure and create the illusion of slenderness and height, which, as a pear-shaped 5'1" girl, I often need. For me, this outfit is perfect for strutting around the city in--which is exactly what I did.

CRUSH THE PATRIARCHY
WICKED CLOTHES shirt // NEIMAN MARCUS leggings // NORDSTROM boots // MAC "Media" lipstick

I've created a reputation at my school as "resident feminist," which is a bit ridiculous considering the fact that anyone who believes in gender equality is essentially a feminist. (Shameless plug to my HuffPost article about why everyone, including boys, need feminism. Heh.) But anyway. The shirt reads "A woman's place is in the house and the senate," and as both a feminist and a lover of politics, I am doubly in love with it. Pretend the lollipop stick is a cigarette and color me a badass.

CRUELLA DE VILLE
NORDSTROM cardigan // NORDSTROM pleather skirt // NORDSTROM boots // NORDSTROM sunnies // MAC "Media" lipstick

You might have seen this outfit in Daysia's previous post about our unplanned matching. (If not, scroll down just a tad.) I love pairing monochromatic clothes with deep, vampy lip colors, and this outfit is the archetype of that. Plus, the juxtaposition in textures between the fluffy cardigan and pleather skirt is something I simply love putting in my outfits. The circle shades complete the head-to-toe look and saved me from squinting quasi-angrily against the sun.

As you can see, my love of Nordstrom always prevails.

Love always,
Dana

dysfunctional

Hey y'all!

Dana and I have similar tastes in clothing. When I say that, I mean similar to the point where unplanned matching has become expected on some days. Today was one of those days.

(Crowd goes awwwww)

NORDSTROM Cardigan, Tank, Skirt, Tights, Boots, and Sunglasses

HANDED-DOWN Cardigan // NORDSTROM Tank and Oxfords // COTTON-ON Skirt // H&M Knee Socks

I guess this is what Dana calls her inner Cruella de Ville/Oreo McFlurry look while I feel like my houndstooth print is more awkward-Sherlock. Or maybe Watson. Eh.

We can't take a good picture on the first try.

Finally, here's some outtakes from our quick photo session. It takes forever for us to take a decent picture (sorry Jacob) but whateva.

xx,
Daysia
